I’ve been hosting a writer’s group in my dear friend’s dungeon. Shayla’s dungeon is in Manhattan near the Canal stations. She lets us meet every other Saturday from 11AM to 1PM because the dungeon isn’t often rented during those hours. We write quietly for one hour, then spend an hour sharing any pieces that we want feedback from the group on. Everyone doesn’t have to share.
The feedback has been GREATLY helpful to my writing. Some of the members are seasoned published authors. Some are working on upcoming performances. Some are new to writing and just looking for community. There’s about 25 members so far, but most group meetings have only 5-7 attendees. I’m regularly blown away by the talent of our members.
You certainly do not have to be a sex worker to attend, but so far most of our members are.
Some of our members, including me, host reading events where sex workers and kinky folks get paid to read their work in bars and clubs. If you’re interested in that, this group might be a good place to start.
It’s a safe space. You can have an “all are welcome” space or a “safe space” but you can’t have both at the same time. So there’s some vetting required. If anyone makes another attendee feel unsafe, they will probably be asked to leave and not come back.
I made a little vetting form a couple nights ago. It needs a ton of editing. It’s too long. It’s redundant in places, and probably too influenced by my personal traumas… But like all things written, it’s gotta start somewhere.
If you’re interested in attending our little group you can apply here.
